Natpak was started in Bulawayo in 1981, primarily to meet the growing packaging demands of its then parent Company, National Foods Limited for woven sacks.
In 1994 Natpak expanded to Harare where it opened a full production plant for woven polypropylene sacks.
In 2010 National Foods divested from Natpak enabling the business to focus on becoming a fully-fledged packaging company, Innscor Africa Limited became the major shareholder.
In 2014 Natpak diversified its operations by entering flexible film production, mostly for FMCG products. Natpak Flexibles has continued to expand with current capacity in excess of 6,000 metric tonnes of packaging per annum.
Natpak is focused on investment in state-of-the-art technology and equipment, giving it the capability to produce large volume and high quality output.
In 2017 Natpak made a substantial investment which has resulted in a controlling stake in a start-up company, Alpha Packaging (Pvt) limited, which manufactures corrugated paper packaging and paper egg trays. This business started to produce substantial volumes in November 2018, Alpha’s plant has an annual capacity of 30,000mt per year. The company will target supply to various commercial and horticulture sectors, including Tobacco.
In 2018 Natpak made a further investment in rigids packaging with capability to manufacture PET preforms, HDPE bottles and HDPE closures. The plant has an annual production capacity in excess of 6,000 metric tonnes.
Natpak has become a fully-fledged packaging company with a broad spectrum of capabilities servicing agriculture, horticulture, and milling, supplying cost effective packaging solutions for a wide range of goods including fertilizer, bread, seed, sugar, food stuffs, dairy products, snacks, poultry, and stock feed.
The company, which is BRCGS certified, has a current employee base of 500 at Natpak and 100 at Alpha Packaging.
Perhaps most important of all in this era of environmental sustainability, is that Natpak takes responsibility for all waste generated in production process by adhering to a policy of recycling. Recycling both its polymers through a plastic recycling plant, a solvent recycling plant and the egg tray product plant at Alpha packaging.
Natpak inputs are derivatives of the crude oil and gas processing industries being mainly polymers (Polypropylene, LDPE, HDPE, PET, Inks and Solvents). These are all imported from neighboring South Africa, Asia, Middle East and Europe.
